A few weeks ago I was driving down to visit with a business in St Augustine when I passed by a unique outdoor showroom. This showroom called Backyard Living by Stanley featured all sorts of fantastic exhibits from outdoor kitchens, combination fitness courts, putting greens, and pool enclosures. I decided to find out a little more, so I quickly made u-turn of Phillips Highway and went in to introduce myself. I met with a gentleman named Dennis, he said he oversaw the outdoor showroom for Stanley Pools and it’s affiliated partners who share the outdoor space and display their products. Dennis connected me with his daughter Kim Stanley who runs the business operations for Stanley Pools, a company with a soon to be thirty year history in Jacksonville.
A few days later I met with Kim back at the outdoor showroom off of Phillips Highway along with her business partner Cindy Cook who runs Creative Design Space, a company that designs outdoor kitchens and living spaces. Kim told me that they have had the outdoor showroom on Phillips Highway for fifteen years now and shared it with five other businesses whom Stanley Pools frequently partner with on various projects.
I asked Kim what got her involved in the pool business and she told me that her husband Greg had grown up in the pool building industry. They support a green initiative by selling unique outdoor furniture that it is made of 100% recycled materials right here in the United States. Their poly furniture is made by Berlin Gardens Poly Furniture located in an Amish community in Berlin Ohio. Each chair is made of five hundred recycled milk jugs which would have otherwise ended up in landfills.
Stanley Pools employs roughly thirty eight full time employees in North Florida who service four hundred and forty clients a month in the five surrounding counties of North Florida. Kim told me that a large part of Stanley Pool’s business comes via way of maintenance and pool cleaning services although their products consist of pool building, pool enclosures, and pavers.
I also had the opportunity to speak with Cindy Cook who represents Creative Design Space at the Phillips Highway showroom. Her company has specialized in custom design projects for outdoor living spaces in North Florida for eleven years. These projects include outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, pergolas, and pavilions. She showed me the tools she uses when providing her outdoor consultation for clients. One of these tools was a really neat digital rendering of the designated project that is setup within the client’s landscape based off photography taken at the site. This provides home owners a look at what their project will look like once completed on their very own property. Creative Design Space also sells the outdoor kitchen appliances that go into the outdoor living space, these appliances have a lifetime warranty and are made in America. Two of their biggest brand names are Solair and Evo Grills.
Visit their outdoor showroom at 12180 Phillips Hwy. Jacksonville, FL 32256.
