At the start of the week I had a chance to meet with the owner of a small new car dealership in Jacksonville called AutoMax Motorsports. Jim Campbell runs his shop with a small crew of five employees but has his eyes set on success by doing things the old school way. I asked him what this meant to him, and he expressed a strong belief in providing a quality used automobile at a fair price. Jim uses several sources to stock his inventory which include other auto dealers, auctions, and various whole sellers. He says that this is one of his biggest business challenges, because he won’t just buy any car and he won’t just sell any car. He has a strong philosophy of selling quality as a measure to ensure repeat customers for the future success of his business. Jim says that one of the things they do differently than many of his other competitors is that he will throughly inspect and detail all vehicles prior to putting them on his lot.
Jim has had thirty years of experience in the auto industry. Before he opened up his own auto dealership in November 2015, he worked for the Tom Bush auto group. He started his twenty six year career with Tom Bush as a sales associate and was shortly after that promoted into management. For the last sixteen years he ran the BMW sales for the Tom Bush auto group.
All though auto sales is the name of the game at AutoMax Motorsports, Jim says that his service department makes up almost half of his business revenue. His service department is staffed by employees that Jim knew back in his Tom Bush days. Jim told me that his service department is equipped and trained to perform service on all European and American luxury brand autos as well as exotic super cars such as Lamborghini.
Jim also mentioned that AutoMax Motorsports will frequently offer auto sales specials where they will have a quality inspected used auto for a take home price of $2,900. A 3 month 3,000 mile limited warranty is available on most cars along with extended warranties. AutoMax Motorsports also offers preferred pricing for military, police, fire fighters, and first responders.
