Last Tuesday I had the opportunity to talk to Christen Davis, general manager of Island Girl Wine and Cigar Bar at Neptune Beach. Island Girl Cigar Bar provides one of the largest selections of premium cigars in North Florida as well as a relaxing environment to enjoy them in. Island Girl Wine and Cigar Bar offers an environment that provides the island chill vibe plus that of a first class lounge. While the first Island Girl Wine and Cigar Bar opened it’s doors ten years ago, each location is independently owned and the Neptune Beach location was recently purchased by Bob and Brenda Feindt. The story of how the establishment received it’s name is an intriguing one in it’s own right. The original owners had a boat called “Island Girl” and sailed across the Caribbean islands, island hopping from one place to the next experiencing the unique environment and cultures that each of them offered. Rick(the original owner) loved cigars and wanted to open up a unique establishment that could bring that same island experience to patrons in Jacksonville.
At Island Girl Wine and Cigar Bar guests can find a low lit comfortable environment complete with cushiony leather couches, fine wood bar serving the best of Jacksonville’s craft beer, small tables for group conversation, and a large walk-in humidor where clients can hand pick their desired cigars from a wide selection of the finest imported brands. If you’re a first time smoker the staff is very knowledgable and can provide guidance for your first perfect selection. If you are looking for smoking accessories such as fine lighters, cigar cutters, ashtrays, and personal humidors they have those too. Christen told me that one of their most popular cigars is the Padron Aniversario, which is made with select Nicaraguan tobaccos that have gone through a four year aging process and offers a full bodied strength yet a smooth smoke.
Island Girl Wine and Cigar Bar will rotate cigars on a regular basis and consistently carries most of the top twenty five cigars from Cigar Aficionado magazine. In addition they carry a lot of rare craft brews which are also rotated on seasonal basis. Island Girl Wine and Cigar Bar maintains a large clientele of regulars and sees about 150 customers a day, they encourage their clients to spend as much time with them as they want, to relax and enjoy “Island Time” away from their everyday routine. Bob and Brenda wanted to create an environment within their establishment which was comfortable to all who enjoy cigars, both men and women. They offer a different drink special every Monday through Saturday from 8 p.m. to close, and a happy hour every Monday through Friday. They also have $16 growlers at the bar and offer a 10% discount on the full tab to military, police, and firefighters. They also have live music on Friday nights from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Some plans in the near future include expansion with additional seating on the outdoor patio area and as well as rumors of a rooftop deck where patrons can enjoy an eagle view of the Neptune Beach neighborhood.
